Here at Temprell, we are privileged to be part of many love stories, but every now and then, a commission comes along that is truly one-of-a-kind. Such was the case when a customer approached us in late February 2026 with a vision for a "stand-in engagement ring" for himself—one that would be deeply personal, sentimental, and exceptionally exclusive.
The result, as you can see, is a stunning piece of wearable art that pushes the boundaries of traditional jewellery design.

The customer's brief was both challenging and inspiring: he wanted a signet-style ring, but with a shape and texture unlike any standard design. The core concept was an organic, raw, rock-formation aesthetic. This was not about a polished, faceted gemstone in a classic setting; it was about sculpting a landscape in precious metal.
To achieve this, we hand-carved and formed the ring directly out of wax in our workshop. This meticulous, hands-on process allowed our goldsmith to sculpt the rugged, geological texture that flows across the face of the signet. This textured area, resembling a dark, crystallized mineral deposit (a technique using selective oxidation and plating on gold), serves as the foundation for the ring's focal points.
Set within this sculpted landscape is an ethereal, fiery opal and several tiny, uncut, rough diamonds. The contrast between the warm yellow gold band, the dark texture, the play of colour in the opal, and the raw, unrefined beauty of the rough diamonds creates a truly unique and captivating piece. It’s a ring that tells a story of natural formation and human emotion.

The creation of this ring was a delightful two-month journey of collaboration. Our customer placed immense trust in our team, and working with him was a pleasure from start to finish. As he so wonderfully described in his review, the process was a true partnership:

The journey involved everything from gem suggestions and design inspirations to admiring prototypes and sharing little updates. It was a fun, creative, and fulfilling experience for everyone involved, resulting in an outcome that the customer felt was "...better than I could have imagined."
